Sementes da VidaAfrica BrasilAlutha continua Seeds for LifeAfrica Brazil The fight continues In May 2010, a delegation from South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique visited Brazil on a study tour to learn about the annual cycles of planting and harvesting of Creole (native) seeds. This visit (1-20 May 2010) formed part of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the African Union, signed in Brazil on 28 February 2007. The development goal of this project (Implementation of community seed banks and training for the recovery, multiplication, storage and use of native/Creole seeds in family farming areas) is to contribute to the economic and organisational strengthening of family farming in South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique and the specific objectives are: - Empowering family farmers, technicians and leadership in South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique in recovery, multiplication, storage and use of native/Creole seeds procedures;
- Promoting technical exchanges between family farmers, technicians and leaders of South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Brazil for the recovery, multiplication, storage and use of native/Creole seeds;
- Implementing community seed banks for recovery, multiplication, storage and use of native/Creole seeds;
- Supporting the process of exchange and marketing of native/Creole seeds, by hosting seed fairs; and
- Monitoring and evaluation of this cooperation project.
