Cala University Student Association [C A L U S A] is a non-govermental organisation (NGO) that was established in February 1983 by UNISA student residing and working in Cala.

The organisation, focuses on rural development and is regsitered as a Section 21 Company as well as under the Non-Profit Organisation Act of 1997.

Although C A L U S A initially focussed on assisting university stidents, its operations changed over the years to cover rural development more generally.

The organisation operates primarily in the Emalahleni and Sakhisizwe Minicipalities. We also cover the O.R.Tambo and Alfred Nzo District Municipalities from time to time.

Mission: C A L U S A is a non-govermental and development organisation that operates in the Northern Region [Region B] of the Eastern Cape Province. It is registered as a Section 21 Company as well as under the Non-Profit Organisation Act of 1997.

C A L U S A is a member of the Trust for Community Outreach and Education [T C O E], and of South Africa NGO Coalition [S A N G O C O].

C A L U S A is a gender sensitive, non-partisan and non-sectarian  organisation. We believe in an integrated and holistic approach to development; as stated our main focus is the rural areas of Region B.

C A L U S A is commited to community participation in rural developmnt through structures set up, driven by and accountable to their communities. Our target group includes youth, unemployed men and women in these rural areas.

We aim at achieving the above by assisting, training, monitoring, supporting and evaluating rural community structires such as income generating and community development projects.
